Insurance
All services are out-of-pocket at this time.
Unfortunately, we do not take insurance and there are many reasons for that. Participating in the insurance industry is limiting to my practice of therapy as it requires a diagnosis to qualify for coverage. This is not aligned with my decolonial ethics and values of mental health as I believe the current diagnostic system is White-centered, ableist, and patriarchal. I practice therapy through an affirming and depathologizing lens with an emphasis on community care and connection, which is not always able to "prove medical necessity" for insurance companies. The quality of therapy I can provide is hindered by colluding with the insurance industry, as I have experienced from years of working in community mental health.
Insurance companies have the right to audit our work together, can police what your therapy looks like, and can refuse to pay for services I have provided. Between lack of client and therapist autonomy, oppressive guidelines for medical necessity, lack of client privacy through auditing, and insurance companies' ability to withhold pay, it is best for me to only accept self-pay clients at this time. I also work for other organizations that do take insurance, which is how I am able to provide the most accessible care they can. I am working on establishing a sliding scale fee system to be able to provide more accessible care in the future. If you need referrals for in-network providers, I am happy to provide them. As an out-of-network provider, a superbill can be provided for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. All services, including yoga, may be HSA/FSA eligible depending on your benefits. If a Letter of Medical Necessity is needed for HSA/FSA reimbursement, I will do my best to assess and provide those if applicable.
