What is "Theia"?
Theia Wellness was inspired by Asia Suler’s book “Mirrors In The Earth.” She talks about how, 4.5 billion years ago, another planet called Theia collided with the Earth. The collision caused our planet to turn completely molten, and the impact was so impactful it knocked Earth off balance so that now it is tilted on its axis. It is because the Earth was thrown off kilter that we have the changing of seasons. Suler says that "If we were in ballet class, this kind of off-centered pirouette would be seen as an imperfection, but our tilt is what makes Earth the incredible place of diversity it is today."
It's true - without the seasons we wouldn't experience the beauty of vast biodiversity with species being able to recover after major extinction events. Without it, life might not exist. "When it first happened, this collision was a catastrophe for our planet, but Earth's meeting with Theia ended up being the impact that gave us life. The seasons that are so essential to our thrival here on Earth are the result of trauma - and its subsequent healing." This teaches us that trauma can lead to healing, growth, and resiliency. Our personal traumas, rather than damaging us, can enrich our lives, offering unique gifts and potential for awakening.
"Trauma is a natural part of being alive, yet so many of us have shame around the things that have hurt and changed us. We assume that what we experienced shouldn't warrant the dislocation we feel. Or we worry that our alteredness somehow makes us less lovable. Our traumas, however, are not the things that have damaged us beyond repair, but the impacts that have gifted us our unique dimensionality. What if our personal traumas were not just the boulders that threw us off track—but the very encounters that gave us our gorgeous seasonality? What if those impacts, and the natural grace of how your body, heart, and mind have learned to heal, are responsible for the sheer diversity and depth of the gifts you embody today...When we lean into the gravity of the Earth's own story, we see that the most devastating impacts on our existence never came to destroy us but to show us the beauty that can sprout from how we regenerate in the wake of these life-changing events."
